CHAMBER PROVIDES SUBMISSION TO CIRB REGARDING CN DUTY DURING LABOUR NEGOTIATIONS
CN and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) have been in negotiations over a new collective bargaining agreement since the end of 2023. Recently, Canadian Labour Minister Seamus O’Regan requested clarity from the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) on whether or not CN must continue to supply services in respect of certain commodities during a labour disruption.
CHAMBER REQUESTS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT REMOVE NEW CAPITAL GAINS INCLUSION RATE
The Government of Canada recently announced it would increase the capital gains inclusion rate (the share of capital gains that is taxed) from 50 per cent to 67 per cent. The change will apply to those with more than $250,000 in capital gains in a year as of June 25, 2024.

2024 FEDERAL BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS
Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland delivered the 2024 federal budget on April 16, 2024. The budget expects a deficit of $40.0 billion for
2023-24 and forecasts deficits of $39.8 billion for 2024-25, and $38.9 billion for 2025-26.

REGINA & SASKATOON CHAMBERS CONTENT WITH SMALL BIZ TAX IN SK BUDGET
The Government of Saskatchewan released its 2024-25 Provincial Budget on Wednesday and included was the decision to maintain the small business tax at one per cent. The tax was previously scheduled to increase to two per cent this year but will now remain at one per cent until June 2025.
