CHAMBER PROVIDES SUBMISSION TO CIRB REGARDING CN DUTY DURING LABOUR NEGOTIATIONS

Posted by: Regina Chamber Admin - May 22, 2024

CN and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) have been in negotiations over a new collective bargaining agreement since the end of 2023. Recently, Canadian Labour Minister Seamus O’Regan requested clarity from the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) on whether or not CN must continue to supply services in respect of certain commodities during a labour disruption.

As a result of O’Regan’s request, there can be no labour disruption before the CIRB issues a decision.

The CIRB invited affected groups and organizations to make submissions on these matters until Tues., May 21. The CIRB is now taking rebuttals for a 10-day period.

Regina & District Chamber of Commerce (RDCC) CEO Tony Playter provided a submission to the CIRB, stressing the importance to RDCC members of maintaining key railway services during labour disruptions.
