RDCC JOINING TRADE MISSION TO ADVOCATE ON TARIFF ISSUES

Posted by: Regina Chamber Admin - April 3, 2025

The Regina & District Chamber of Commerce (RDCC) is joining a group of local organizations to help protect Regina-area residents and businesses from the forces of tariffs from the United States and China.

The RDCC will participate in a trade mission to Denver in May 2025 as the group will meet with major partner organizations in the U.S. to advocate on behalf of Regina businesses, entrepreneurs and workers.

The Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership includes Economic Development Regina, the University of Regina, Canadian Western Agribition, the City of Moose Jaw, the Global Transportation Hub, the Regina Airport Authority, the Regina Hotels Association and others.

“Given the close economic ties between Canada and the U.S., especially in trade and commerce, it’s essential that Regina businesses have a strong voice in conversations about tariffs and trade policies. By engaging directly with U.S. partner organizations, local groups can help ensure that Regina’s businesses are not unfairly impacted by trade barriers and can work towards securing favourable terms or exemptions,” said Mike Tate, CEO of the Regina & District Chamber of Commerce.

“Simply put, we need to work collectively to emphasize the importance of putting an end to these tariffs.”

Saskatchewan partners continue to be active in advocating to protect and promote Regina’s economy. Mayor Chad Bachynski recently attended the 2025 Mayors Trade Summit in Washington, D.C. while a Team Saskatchewan delegation led by Premier Scott Moe is currently in Germany and the United Kingdom promoting Regina as a global trade and investment destination.

According to EDR estimates, the U.S. tariffs alone with create a $329-million hole in Regina’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2025 with a potential loss of 730 jobs.
